'I get baffled when I see other jurisdictions being able to do something that we could be doing also,' Interim N.L. Tory Leader David Brazil told reporters in response to media reports about a mass exodus of respiratory therapists graduates. nlpoli

The Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s. - File PhotoST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Recent reports that a number of respiratory therapists at Eastern Health have quit their jobs, and that Nova Scotia is actively recruiting student respiratory therapists about to graduate in Newfoundland and Labrador, is another example of the Liberal government not doing enough in health care, Progressive Conservative Interim Leader David Brazil says.

The CBC story also said recruiters from Nova Scotia visited the respiratory therapist class of 2023 at the College of the North Atlantic with offers of jobs, signing bonuses and other incentives. “We are actively working with the Department of Health and Community Services to identify ways to retain our workforce and address the challenges.”

Eastern Health says it is not unusual for other regions to make offers to students in this province, and Eastern Health also attempts to recruit from schools in other provinces.
