New prevention site in Nanaimo comes amid ‘dangerous time of drug toxicity,’ addictions minister saysMinister of Mental Health and Addictions Sheila Malcolmson speaks during a press conference in the press gallery at the Legislature in Victoria, Monday, Nov. 1, 2021.
Located at 250 Albert St., the centre opens Monday, Dec. 5, offering services such as treatment options, harm-reduction measures, and supports and referrals for people to reduce the risk of toxic drug poisonings, the province says. The province and Island Health are funding the facility, which the Canadian Mental Health Association’s mid-Island branch will operate following the health authority’s request for proposals earlier in 2022.
“This new service will provide a client-centred, dignified and non-judgmental care, and offers opportunities for people to connect with the services they need, and supports them on their wellness journeys.”
