Cindy Blackstock receives Gold Medal award from the national Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council
Cindy Blackstock, the recently appointed and first ever chancellor of NOSM University has been named a recipient of the prestigious national Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council’s Gold Medal award.
The SSHRC Gold Medal is the highest recognition offered by the council, which congratulated Blackstock for dedicating her career to improving child welfare in First Nations communities. The council added that the positive effects of Blackstock's research has been significant for Indigenous communities.
“I want to congratulate Dr. Cindy Blackstock on this significant recognition of her work and her contributions. Her work demonstrates how critical insights provided by social sciences and humanities research pushes forward our understanding of humanity and helps remediate systemic inequalities affecting our First Nations communities,” said Lapointe.
