The town also has certain equipment that other towns don’t have, she said. Of particular note is a ladder truck, which the town will be looking to replace in the coming years. Because New Glasgow members are being paid for each call, MacDonald said, it’s as if New Glasgow taxpayers are paying a disproportionate amount to fight fires outside their boundaries.
Another area related to fire service that the Town of New Glasgow has been looking at is water that was being given away at the New Glasgow Fire Station to fill up trucks from outside departments. “Council feels that it's unreasonable for us to be providing all of the water to fight fires that are outside of New Glasgow,” MacDonald explained.
“We're happy to make those arrangements and happy to make those arrangements with anyone,” MacDonald said.
