New Blue Jays starter Bassitt didn't need a sales pitch on his new team Via longleysunsport

Bassitt says he loves the city of Toronto and is keen on the fact that it’s a reasonable drive for friends and family from his home in Northeast Ohio.

Central in that belief is being reunited with former teammate, Matt Chapman, who along with former Jay and Athletic Marcus Semien were central voices in Bassitt’s vetting of his new club. From the Jays perspective, the idea of adding a proven veteran with an elite and varied pitch mix stood out in the courtship.

“Really good starting point and we’re excited about the bounce back in Kikuchi as well and having Mitch White on board,” Atkins said. “And then having some prospects that are exciting and up and coming is a good starting point.” Atkins confirmed as much on Monday and said that the current deed holder of that land, George Springer is on board with such plans.

“I think Kevin understand what comes with a winning environment and George certainly understands what comes with a winning environment,” Atkins said.
