Lucy the Lobster will help kick off the 2023 Lobster Crawl festival when she makes her annual Groundhog Day prediction on Feb. 2 in the Municipality of Barrington.

Lucy is scheduled to make her weather prediction at 8 a.m. on Feb. 2. The public is invited to attend, as opposed to the last few years when COVID made it a virtual event. Twelve restaurants will be competing in the Lobster Roll Off competition this year, scheduled for Feb.5 at the Best Western in Bridgwater. Being allowed to have people in person at the event, as well as at Lucy’s Groundhog Day prediction this year, “certainly adds an element,” says Stephanie Miller Vincent, South Shore Tourism Cooperative coordinator. “Doing it long distance doesn’t have the same excitement.
While events are still being added to the Lobster Crawl calendar, a few new add-ons this year include a Lobster Crawl dance at White Point on Feb. 11 and the Lobster Crawl Beer Festival on Feb. 18 at the Best Western Bridgewater. Bridgewater resident Heather Jeffers enjoys a dish at the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl tail end reception several years ago. Jeffers has been chosen as this year’s Lob-Star for the festival, getting VIP status for many of the signature events the lobster crawl is becoming known for, through an online video competition.
