He had started the day with the first 36-hole lead of his PGA Tour career, by two strokes.
After a birdie on his opening hole, his drive on the par-5 second landed behind a tree. He could only advance his second shot about 30 feet, leading to bogey. The par-5 ninth was also an adventure, in the morning and afternoon. In the completion of the second round, he blew his approach to the ninth green way right — the ball landed on a catering generator — but got a free drop and was able to make birdie. In the afternoon, his approach hit a spectator on the side of the head and bounced back into the fairway. Svensson ended up making bogey there.
Although he added a birdie on the par-3 13th, he made a triple bogey on the par-4 14th and shot 3-over 75. Only two golfers had worse days. The Canadian was eight shots back heading into Sunday.Scheffler’s caddy worked for Svensson for a few events last year. And the caddy for the third member of the group, Ben Griffin, worked a whole season with Svensson on the Korn Ferry Tour. In the end, Scheffler’s third round was 10 shots better than the Canadian’s.
