With more than 400 participants, the Centre Scolaire Étoile de l’Acadie tournament was considered the largest Acadian ball hockey tournament in the Maritime provinces. “It’s just fun. We have banners though and we are going to try to do it again next year because it seems like it is a success. It breaks the winter up.”
Though competition appeared fierce at times, the actual goal of the games was to encourage French language development, foster friendships, and encourage physical activity for the students in Grades K-9.Members of the Cape Breton Eagles served as special referees and officials for the day of road hockey action and a special mascots game featuring Screech, the Centre Scolaire Étoile de l’Acadie mascot and other mascots from around town was also on the schedule.
