“It’s managing the game and not allowing momentum or fast-break chances,” Keefe said. “They’re very good in transition and their offensive zone play is very good. Those are the things you need to limit, like you do most teams, but they seem to really generate momentum and wear you down shift to shift.
Kraken coach Dave Hakstol, who departed the Leafs’ staff as an assistant to take the job in Seattle, is familiar with Toronto’s attack. The Leafs won both meetings last season, outscoring the Kraken 12-6. The clubs will play each other again on Feb. 26 in Seattle. Marner, meanwhile, hasn’t been able to watch all of the 2023 world junior hockey championships because of the Leafs’ schedule, but has been wowed by Canadian forward and top 2023 draft prospect Connor Bedard.
