JOHN'S, N.L. — “Dine in or take out?” a Mary Brown’s Diner employee asked Raymond Jordan shortly after he walked into the restaurant on a November morning in 2019.Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court Associate Chief Justice Rosalie McGrath found Jordan guilty April 14 of charges related to the attempted robbery.

Three Mary Brown’s staff members testified at trial in St. John’s late last month, each telling the court they had been working the morning in question and had seen a man walk into the restaurant and approach the cash register. One woman said the man took out a knife after she asked him if he was dining in or out; when she told him that she wouldn’t give him any money, he slammed the knife on the counter and threw the cash register on the floor. He left without getting anything.

The third employee — the one who had interacted with the robber at the register — had provided an accurate and reliable account of the events, the judge said.
