Former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher T.J. House has announced he\u0027s gay and is engaged to the love of his life.
House said he was a 23-year-old living out his childhood dream to play pro-ball in Cleveland, dedicating all his energy to the sport and using it as “my drug to numb what was really going on inside.” While he said he loved every moment of his career, even with “all the money, fancy cars, nice clothes and a little tiny bit of fame,” he’d go home nightly wishing he could change.
The former pitcher said deep down he wanted something more. He wanted to be “to be loved not for what I did, but who I was.”, which would recognize same-sex and interracial marriages in the United States. We apologize, but this video has failed to load.“It allows Ryan Neitzel and I to come together and create something beautiful,” he said. “It gives me the confidence to get engaged to the person I love , to marry them.
“I have a wonderful fiancé, who challenges me daily to become a better person. To live life authentically. One who I never deserved but blessed to have. Love you see, it’s for everyone. I’m finally healing, and days like today are what helps me continue to grow into the person I’ve been all along, one I’ve locked up for 20 plus years.”
The 33-year-old House made his Major League Baseball debut as a starter for the Cleveland Indians in 2014. He would only make sporadic appearances with the team for two years before signing in 2017 with the Blue Jays, where he would pitch two games before being designated for assignment., House is the third former MLB player to come out as gay — the others being Billy Bean and Glenn Burker.
