Sister Dorothy Moore, left, stands with Dr. Mary Jane Harkins, who is a professor of education at Mount Saint Vincent University at the launch of Moore's book "A Journey of Hope" on Thursday at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre. NICOLE SULLIVAN/CAPE BRETON POSTMEMBERTOU — Sister Dorthy Moore chose her 89th birthday to launch her book at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre.

An advocate for social justice, Moore is a survivor of the Shubenacadie residential institution and the Indian Day School formerly at Membertou who has spent her life fighting for Indigenous rights. A professor of education at Mount Saint Vincent University, Harkins had originally reached out to Moore to write an article about her which included a short video.

"Sister Dorothy is very inspirational and you deal with very difficult conversations," Harkin said."But at the same time, you come out feeling you can move ahead. She has so much to offer both in the documentary … she is so well respected within the Indigenous and non-Indigenous worlds. She walks many worlds. I view her as an inspirational humanitarian."
