Mark Braude and Tyrell Johnson earn New York Times nods for their most recent works.
“I’m honoured. It’s been many years since I started researching Kiki’s life and it’s great to see the material connecting with people,” said Braude via email. “Any kind feedback is vital because it’s such solitary work. And it’s thrilling to see how widely Kiki’s story has spread. There are German, Italian, and Korean translations so far. That’s like a form of armchair travel for me.
“Kiki’s best known today for posing for some of Man Ray’s iconic photos, taken when the two of them were living and working together in 1920s Paris,” said Braude who set upon writing about Kiki while teaching courses on the history of Paris at Stanford .
