“You are the minister of public safety for Canada, you have an obligation to be informed,” Bloc Quebecois MP Kristina Michaud said to Mendicino. Yet when it came to the decision to transfer Bernardo to a medium-security prison, Mendicino said he didn’t know until after the fact. His staff was informed three months before the transfer happened at the end of May, as was Trudeau’s office, but Mendicino, the minister in charge of the file, said he found out the day after it happened.We apologize, but this video has failed to load.
Asked if anyone would lose their job for keeping him in the dark, Mendicino gave a hard no in response. We’re also asked to believe that Mendicino knew nothing about China’s interference in Canada’s democracy, including the targeting of Canadian MPs like Conservatives Michael Chong and Erin O’Toole and New Democrat Jenny Kwan, until it came out in media reports this spring.
