Letters to The Vancouver Sun, Dec. 10, 2022.
As I watched the chaos unfold, it didn’t escape my observation that many of the people who were stranded appeared even less prepared. How many drivers left in the morning with three-season tires on their vehicles instead of snow tires? How many people left their homes for work knowing the history of Metro Vancouver traffic during snowstorms and the risk of getting stranded? It’s so easy to shift the blame and abdicate our contribution to the mess that resulted in the excruciating delays.
Yet now, our prime minister cries out that the offering of MAID to vets is “absolutely unacceptable.” Too late, Justin Trudeau; the needle has moved on. To this failure of forethought is added the failure of logic. MAID is a legitimate form of health care in this country, and in discussing treatment with the patient, all options must be brought up. Not to mention it to damaged vets would have been an abrogation of fiduciary duty. So how is MAID, offered in response to Canadian law, unacceptable?
