As we prepare for an election at the end of May, let’s do our homework on two significant issues: policing and pensions.
It’s certainly commendable that, at a cost of $21 million, the Cowessess First Nation has recently completed a 10MW solar farm. The article describes that its use will annually offset greenhouse gas emissions by 350,000 tonnes , which is equivalent to the annual emissions from 70,000 gas-powered vehicles.
Is it worth $21 million to reduce Canada’s contribution to global emissions by less than 0.1 per cent? Is the Cowessess First Nation being compensated by the federal government using taxpayer money?Government uses tax rebates to lull us into a state of thankfulness. They increase existing taxes at every opportunity and seek new avenues to implement new ones, then throw us a bone in some form of rebate to lessen the pain.
