Empire Company’'s “11-year financial review” makes interesting reading. This is a very successful company worthy of serious investigation. Their track record on growth is impressive and their management control of this multi-billion-dollar endeavour is noteworthy.

This number had been chugging along at around 4.3 per cent up to 2018. COVID and economic disruptions have so challenged this industry that, apparently, it has created insurmountable problems. Sobeys however, has been able to surmount these problems by almost doubling their adjusted margins. In 2022, the number moved from an average of 4.3 per cent to 7.7 per cent.

We have once-in-a-century storms that seem to happen almost every year. We have politicians shovelling borrowed money out the door as fast as they can print it, and then they sit around scratching their heads, wondering why the price of everything is going up. We have politicians going to great lengths to drive a wedge between people at the same time as they give speeches on the importance of unity to get us through difficult times.
