STORY CONTINUES BELOW THESE SALTWIRE VIDEOSon the negative effect of tuition increases at MUN and would like to support his attention to this matter with some observations of my own.
1. Many provincial and other Canadian students will graduate owing $50,000 plus, taking 10 to 15 years or more to pay it back. Some will rationalize that this is the new norm and we are just catching up to the Canadian and the even more restrictive American cost models for higher education. Students who may have tended to coast or haven't fully figured out their career paths also will not go. 5. More students will have to work while in school. Some will be forced to have more than one job. Others who have moved out will have to return to the parental dwelling. There will be resentment between local and international students as they compete for employment opportunities. Considering the increased cost, parents will be up in arms should their sons or daughters, who got reasonable marks in math, for example, in Grade 12 fail initial university offerings and/or fail out, owing student loans with few prospects for repayment.
