Nanaimo RCMP say a man has been arrested on charges of attempted murder and firearm charges after a road-rage incident on the weekend.
Reza Rahiman, 43, allegedly fired a handgun into another vehicle on Feb. 5 around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Boxwood and Northfield roads.
Witnesses say the two vehicles appeared to have been involved in a road rage incident when driving northbound on the Nanaimo Parkway. When the two vehicles stopped at a red light, Rahiman allegedly got out of his vehicle with a handgun and fired it into the other.After speaking with witnesses, police went to a home in the Departure Bay area and spoke with a 17-year-old who says he was driving the vehicle that was shot at.No one was injured in the incident.
Nanaimo RCMP and Ladysmith RCMP were able to find the suspect and his vehicle in the Cedar area, and Rahiman was taken into custody without incident.Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.Rahiman appeared in Nanaimo Provincial Court on Feb. 6, where he was formally charged with attempted murder and discharge of a firearm with intent to injure or wound related to the road-rage incident. He remains in police custody.
