Sheldon Keefe couldn’t have asked for more from the Maple Leafs.
We think highly of the Leafs because of what they accomplished during the regular season. Had they stumbled along and done just enough to earn a playoff spot , little would be expected from them on the eve of the playoffs.
In their final 20 games, the Leafs put together a record of 12-5-3. They did so as newcomer Ryan O’Reilly, who is just four years removed from winning the Conn Smythe with the St. Louis Blues, missed the majority of those games with a broken finger. O’Reilly, who had six points in the final five games after his return, will be an impactful player in the post-season.
Will Tampa have the edge in post-season experience? It will, given that the Lightning nucleus has two Stanley Cup rings and nearly earned a third one a year ago when the team lost to Colorado in the Cup final.
