“At the time, I was putting off going to therapy,” she says. “I knew I needed to. My parents had just gotten a divorce and I was going through a lot of mental health problems on my own and smoking a lot of weed and just distracting myself in any way I could because I didn’t want to put in the mental health work. But I reached a point where I knew I needed to take a break from my closest comforts, that being depression naps and cannabis.

I loved being backstage. I loved the smell of the fireworks. Still to this day, anytime I smell fireworks, I’m back. I love that it was a late-night scene. They would drop you off in a limo-esque thing at the end of the night at 2 in the morning. I felt like such a rock star at the age of 10.
“If I was on my deathbed and I hadn’t released even one song, I knew I would regret it,” she says. “It was always what I wanted in my heart of hearts and I just couldn’t admit it to myself. I started with one single song and I loved it so much that I kept doing it. This definitely wasn’t my plan, but it was my dream.”Article content
