Jayne Rosemary Chaulk, found by RCMP passed out in her vehicle on a Deer Lake beach parking in December 2020, has been convicted of operating a motor vehicle while being impaired.

At 12:45 a.m. on Dec. 12, 2020, a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police noticed Chaulk’s vehicle in the Deer Lake beach parking lot and decided to check it. When police searched her vehicle, they found a bottle of assorted pills in the front pocket of her jacket and a pouch of glass tubes in the inside pocket of her jacket. He concluded her ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired as a result of her use of narcotic analgesic drugs. “She was sitting in the driver’s seat with the key in the ignition. There was a realistic risk of danger.”On the night of her arrest, she said, she took a sleeping pill at 9 p.m., but at 10 p.m. received a call that a former boyfriend was ill, and his sister had called an ambulance. She walked over to that woman’s residence and stayed until the ambulance left, then she walked home.
