Carol Van Toever, a member of Island Matters rug hooking guild, pulls a few loops at the P.E.I. Crafts Council Christmas Craft Fair Nov. 20 in Charlottetown. The rug is built on a backing of burlap that was stamped with a pattern and will be made from wool fabric strips between five and six millimetres wide. Some of the wool was dyed for the project ad some is “as is”, said Van Toever. The Island Matters meets on the second Saturday of the month at the P.E.I. Farm Centre.CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I.
Mel Montgomery, of Hearth and Hedge handwoven, peeks in between some of her woven wares at the P.E.I. Crafts Council Christmas Craft Fair Nov. 20 in Charlottetown. Montgomery weaves on either a 45- or 36- inch Leclerc floor loom. Both are vintage looms previously owned by other weavers and cared for by the artist. Montgomery said the annual event had been busy and that it was great to see people out after so long.

Her partner, Gilles Tougas , makes handmade wheat paste, similar to glues used in the 1800s and early 1900s, for the hardcover volumes.
