“The only reason I knew I had cancer is because I went for my smear'
A cervical cancer survivor was told she ‘wouldn’t be here now’ if she had postponed her smear test by just six months.
She also underwent blood tests, a pelvic MRI scan and a chest X-ray. On December 8, she received the devastating news that she had stage 1B2 cervical cancer. “We’d always said we were happy with one child, but when that decision is taken away from you, that is really difficult to deal with because you can’t change your mind,” she said.
“So many people don’t go for their smear tests, and it really frustrates me. It’s so important because you don’t always know what’s going on in your own body – cervical cancer can be so silent, but that five-minute test can save your life.”She was told she had stage 1B2 cervical cancer on December 8, and she burst into tears.
However, due to the surgical menopause which caused her to have difficulty sleeping, night sweats, weight gain, “brain fog”, low mood, and anxiety, she was given hormone replacement therapy , initially in the form of patches, and she now uses HRT gel.
