The Good Nurse isn't your typical true crime story. The Netflix production, starring Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne, tells the true story of Amy Loughren, a New Jersey nurse who learns her close friend and co-worker is a serial killer.

In 2003, Loughren wore a recording device to capture Cullen's confessions, which police later used to arrest him.The cast of The Good Nurse describes Amy Loughren as a heroJessica Chastain, Eddie Redmayne and Noah Emmerich describe the heroic acts of Amy Loughren and her power to change the world in ways the institution wasn’t capable of.Loughren worked closely with Chastain, both over Zoom and on set, to capture Loughren's empathy and the nuance of her actions, she told CBC News.

"This man, who seemed very gentle, very kind, very empathetic, was using that empathy and weaponizing it to do horrific things," he told CBC News. Noah Emmerich, who plays detective Tim Braun, said his role was different from other detectives he portrayed in the past. "The detectives couldn't get him. They were totally dead in the water until this little angel, Amy."
