The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol has issued a subpoena demanding Donald Trump's testimony.

Lawmakers say Trump 'personally orchestrated' effort to overturn results of 2020 electionFormer U.S. president Donald Trump speaks at a rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022. The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol on Friday issued a subpoena demanding his testimony.

The nine-member panel issued a letter to Trump's lawyers, demanding his testimony under oath by Nov. 14 and outlining a request for a series of corresponding documents, including personal communications between the former president and members of Congress as well as extremist groups. In a letter to Mr. Trump, Chair @BennieGThompson and Vice Chair @RepLizCheney underscored Trump’s central role in a deliberate, orchestrated effort to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and block the transfer of presidential power. pic.twitter.com/rg7R37YE11It is unclear how Trump and his legal team will respond. He could comply or negotiate with the committee, announce he will defy the subpoena or ignore it altogether. He could also go to court to try to stop it.
