Former Ottawa Redblacks head coach Rick Campbell once said about football buzzsaw Antoine Pruneau: “
It was Pruneau’s tenaciousness that always stood out, his desire to be good and for his team to be good. It was his balls-to-the-wall style of play that also left him banged up much of the time from 2018-21.
“Not only did he play all out at all times, he played with extreme discipline and extreme smarts,” said Redblacks head coach Bob Dyce, who became the Redblacks’ special teams co-ordinator in 2016. “His strength was truly his discipline and he took it as a personal battle to always win his 1-on-1 matchup. He continued doing that right through last year.”
“I try to take the positivity of the memories we built together over the seven years I coached him,” said Dyce. “Then you get to a point where it’s a bit selfish; that’s the point where I get sad I won’t see him every day. He brought such a passion into the building and onto the field – that’s very difficult to replace. He truly bled Redblacks. You can’t have as great a career as Antoine did if you’re not invested in all aspects. That’s why he was such a great professional.
