Health Canada has approved AstraZeneca’s Evusheld for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 in adults and adolescents over the age of 12.

“Today’s approval marks an important step in our ongoing journey to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on the lives of Canadians,” said Kiersten Combs, President of AstraZeneca Canada. Evusheld was previously approved in April as a drug that may help prevent some from getting sick from COVID-19. The drug is an option for people who are immunocompromised and COVID‐19 vaccination is ineffective or not recommended.“Evusheld is now the only long-acting antibody combination approved for both prevention and treatment of COVID-19 in Canada, allowing us to help protect even more people who are immune-compromised and remain most vulnerable to this devastating disease,” said Combs.

Not many side effects have been reported by people who have gotten Evusheld. Most common side effects are pain, redness, itching or swelling where the needle was given, headache, chills, or discomfort or soreness near where the needle was given.
