• The Ardoise Community Hall saw an infusion of new energy and support in 2007, with a number of events and fundraisers held that continually drew people to the venue. • Four boys, aged 16 to 17 years, from the Lower Sackville area were arrested and charged with a number of offences related to a series of break and enters that occurred in Mount Uniacke.

In 2007, minister Robyn Brown-Hewitt issued an open invitation to attend a non-denominational Longest Night service at the St. Andrew’s United Church in Wolfville. She said for many, the holidays are not joyous as they’re dealing with loss, sickness, stress, unemployment, poverty or the inability to go home and be around loved ones. This service was quiet and sombre. - File

• Conservative leader Robert Stanfield was reported as saying he felt it was his duty to “bring down the government” of Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Rev. W. Clarke MacDonald, the deputy secretary of the United Church’s Division of Mission in Canada offered a rebuttal, noting all four national political party leaders should put the best interest of the people before power and “personal aggrandizement.

• Sobeys was having a Christmas food festival. Included in the deals were oven-ready Grade B six- to 10-pound turkeys for 49 cents per pound, a 14-ounce tin of Stuart House cranberry sauce for 24 cents; a 48-ounnce tin of Scotian Gold apple juice for 38 cents; and a dozen Mexican zipper skinned tangerines for 49 cents.

Also in 1947, Fred and Lawrence Wile opened a Firestone Store, operated by the Panuke Motor Company, in Windsor.
