LONDON, Ont. — Brad Gushue is back in familiar territory — the Tim Hortons Brier final.

Instead, he will face Bottcher’s Wild Card 1 entry in the semifinal Sunday afternoon.

The victory put Canada second E.J. Harnden into his first Brier final in eight years. He choked up at the thought of beating his brother Ryan, who is Manitoba’s lead, to get back to the big game. The skip of the mighty Wild Card 1 entry booked his sixth consecutive trip to the biggest day in Canadian curling and advanced to the semifinal with a rock-solid 6-3 victory over Mike McEwen’s Ontario rink Saturday afternoon at Budweiser Gardens.

“When Benny was putting the team together, he thought who are the guys who keep getting to the big games,” Bottcher’s third Marc Kennedy said. “Brendan keeps finding his way into Brier playoffs and he’s only 31. The other are in their mid-40s. Part of me feels I’m lucky I might get him right in his prime to be able to play as he’s just getting better.”
