Sohi is right to ask for some sort of equity for Edmonton versus Calgary in the upcoming provincial budget.

As a taxpayer, I’m not happy with such free spending, particularly on initiatives that are not of a more general benefit to the province as a whole. For instance, what does it benefit a taxpayer in Plamondon or Bow Island to invest billions into making it easier for incoming air passengers to get to downtown Calgary from YYC?
For example, I’ve been waiting for Ottawa to announce that it is ending its COVID policy of having basically just four airports — Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver — handle most incoming international flights to make virus screening easier. I don’t care whether the province helps with further expansion of Edmonton’s LRT network or not. More hub-and-spoke LRT is a waste in a city where the bulk of business is in the ring around the city rather than in the central core.Perhaps Sohi’s most valid point is his call for more funding for permanent shelter beds.
