He first became involved in 1976 when his son Brent’s New Glasgow midget team was going to New Brunswick to play in the Maritime basketball finals but was short of funds.“When you knew he was looking after something you just knew things were looked after and going to be done well,” Smith said.“We never had to worry about money to go on trips. There was always a few dollars given to us in our hands to cover meals,” Smith said.
Mark Arbuckle grew up playing basketball in New Glasgow and remembers the big impact MacDonald had on him. When he and friends look through old pictures, they’ll point out MacDonald.
