The Ottawa Senators placed Wade Redden into the Ring of Honour on Monday night.
The 45-year-old Redden suited up for 838 games with the Senators. He ranks fifth all-time in franchise scoring with 101 goals and 410 points in that stretch. Among blueliners, he’s second behind former captain Erik Karlsson.
“I’m proud of my time here. On the ice and off the ice, I was professional in my approach. I came here and I went to work. The connections I made at CHEO and Cystic Fibrosis are all things that I’ve been thinking about.” “He wasn’t flashy but he was just ‘Steady Reds’, he was the kind of defenceman who could help you in every situation. He had one of the best abilities to flip the puck in the league. When things were getting troublesome, he’d just flip the puck out and I really enjoyed that.”
Newly-hired general manager Pierre Gauthier dealt for Redden, who was the No. 2 selection in 1995 behind Berard, from the Isles and also picked up goaltender Damian Rhodes from the Leafs in the trade. Kirk Muller went from the Isles to the Leafs.Article content “It was a really rough Mike Milbury camp and we were young guys, just right out of and we were kind of going, ‘Wow, here we are.’ We kind of stuck together.”
