TEMPE, Arizona _ The Ottawa Senators packed their bags and headed west Tuesday afternoon to try to get back on track.
The effort was there against the Predators, but the results weren’t and it didn’t help matters that the club’s power play, which has helped carry a big part of the offence this season, went 0-for-5 versus Nashville.
“If we learned anything from when we got going good in December, it’s that we’re good when we play the way the Ottawa Senators play. We don’t play run-and-gun, we don’t turn pucks over the at the lines. We play north/south, we dump-and-chase and it might not be sexy but it works for us.The Senators will hit the midpoint of the schedule against the Coyotes and if they want to stay in the race for a playoff spot they need to get headed in the right direction again.
“We’ve got to get our game back on the road. Our penalty kill continues to keep the puck out of the net, a lot of nights our power play is going to score, and we’ll score here on the road. But, five-on-five scoring has been an issue for us. We get chances, analytically and all those things, we just haven’t made good on it.
It’s imperative for the Senators to reclaim the consistency that got them back in the race for a wildcard spot in the East. The club went into Tuesday night’s action seven points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the last playoff spot in the East.Article content
