The Belleville Senators will have a new face behind the bench Saturday night at CAA Arena.
“A change like this is a difficult decision, but we are aligned internally and feel this is necessary for the short- and long-term growth of the players in our organization as well as the cohesion in systematic play between Ottawa and Belleville,” said Bowness. “I want to thank Troy and his family for their contributions to the Belleville community.”
The use of the word “internally” suggests this is a move that isn’t only about the club’s on-ice performance and management felt it was necessary to make this move. Belleville is in sixth place in the AHL’s North division with a record of 17-22-3-1 for 38 points through 43 games this season.Article content
This wouldn’t have been an easy decision for the organization to make because Troy Mann is the brother of Senators’ assistant GM Trent Mann. He wouldn’t have been involved in this decision because of the relationship, but Trent wouldn’t be the least bit pleased with this move either. Mann has been behind the club’s bench since the organization moved its franchise to Belleville. He was in the midst of his fifth season with the club and has helped the Senators develop their prospects, including Josh Norris, Drake Batherson and Alex Formenton.Bell, 45, is in his fourth season in Belleville and he’s been a head coach twice in his career.
“While a change at the head coach position during the season is not an ideal scenario, we felt it was necessary to deliver improved team performance,” said Dorion. “We are confident that David and his staff will make the most of this opportunity.”
