The Senators started this trip Thursday with a 5-3 victory over the Arizona Coyotes and were hoping to pick up another two points here. Passing the midway point of the season, the Senators have nine games left this month before a 11-day break. But coach D.J. Smith noted the Avalanche still has plenty of firepower with forwards Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen along with defenceman Cale Makar.

After making 26 stops in the victory over the Coyotes, Forsberg made his second straight start in this one. The Senators need to have both of their goaltenders going to find a way back into this race and both have struggled at times with consistency. With 10:55 left in the second, the Avs pulled out to a 3-0 lead on the strength of Artturi Lehkonne’s 10th of the campaign. He was able to take a pass, get in behind the Ottawa’s Jake Sanderson and after battling him off push it by Forsberg.
