The Ottawa Senators will have to deal with more adversity as they try desperately to get back into the playoff picture before the NHL’s holiday break later…
The Senators will play 10 games in the next 18 days before the NHL’s mandated three-day holiday break gets under way Dec. 24th.
“Our forwards are going to have to hold on to pucks in the zone a lot longer to take some pressure off of the guys. Clearly, you have to play on, but it’s not idea losing a guy like him. But, like we’ve said before, other teams go through injuries and you have no choice.” Pierre Dorion stated after the general manager’s meetings in Toronto last month he’d like to have a stretch of games where he could see his whole team together. The club is hopeful Norris will be able to play next month, but that will depend on his recovery from the ailment.
“Would I like Norris and everyone healthy? Yeah, I would,” Smith said. “But, that’s the NHL and we unfortunately haven’t had that opportunity. If you bring a guy like Norris and a guy like Zub back into the fold, then everybody slots down. Recalled from the club’s AHL affiliate in Belleville on Thursday after clearing waivers last month, Zaitsev was solid in the back-to-back wins. He played just over 19 minutes in the victory over the Sharks and Talbot gave Zaitsev the player-of-the-game award, which is a pair of bike goggles, in the dressing room.
