The only two candidates running for the Conseil Scolaire Viamonde on Monday in Toronto Central don’t speak French.
on the Conseil Scolaire Viamonde — a board consisting of 12 trustees with 56 schools and 13,200 students in a region that covers Southwest Ontario to Hastings County.
The city agreed and in its decision noted that when candidates register, they must sign an acknowledgment affirming they are qualified to be elected. “I’ve very disappointed. Whenever I try something good, someone stabs me in the back,” she said, adding that she intends to run again in the byelection.
Cameron MacLeod, parent of a child at a Viamonde elementary school and one of the signatories of the parent complaint, had earlier expressed “grave concerns” to the Star about the candidates’ inability to participate and advocate properly without a command of the language.
