JOHN'S, N.L. — The provincial government will begin distributing free COVID-19 rapid antigen tests to homes throughout Newfoundland and Labrador over the coming weeks.
The provincial Department of Health and Community Services said two test kits with five tests each will be distributed to homes through Canada Post throughout November and December. Also, tests will be available in public libraries and MHA constituency offices throughout the province in the coming weeks.
Public Health noted that rapid antigen tests do not always detect COVID-19 on the first day or two of symptoms. Health officials recommend doing one test on the first day of symptoms and, if it is negative, taking a second test 48 hours later.PCR testing will remain in place for outbreak management and in acute care settings.
Public Health encouraged anyone with a positive rapid antigen test result to report it, as reporting positive tests provides information to guide health recommendations.
