KOTA KINABALU: The flood situation in Sabah continues to improve with more evacuees being allowed to return home, although over 3,000 students and teachers are still unable to get to class.

According to figures from the state Civil Defence Department, the number of evacuees dropped to 452 as at 11am Friday , against 478 at 8pm the night before.Seven temporary relief centres remain open to house the flood victims.

Sabah Education Department deputy director Abidin Marjan said 3,189 students and teachers are currently affected with 15 schools in Beluran, Tenom and Beaufort unable to open. They are SK Sualok, SK Pantai Boring and SMK Pamol in Beluran; SK Kalang Kanar in Tenom; and SK Jabang, SK Bangkalalak, SK Suasa, SK Lago, SK Lian Hwa, SK Lembah Poring, SMK St John, SK Garama, SK Mempagar, SK Kabajang, SK Pekan Membakut and SK Lupak in Beaufort.
