When the Calgary Flames took to the ice for practice on Monday morning, Jonathan Huberdeau was back where most people had expected to see him all season long.

The Flames need there to be. The three scored only a combined two goals on the trip and the team is going to need more from the newly reunited line. While Huberdeau didn’t necessarily get off to the start that he or anyone else was hoping for this season, head coach Darryl Sutter said last week that his game had “come a long ways” and GM Brad Treliving acknowledged in an interview with Postmedia’s Wes Gilbertson this past weekend that the winger had been playing hurt earlier in the year.
As for Huberdeau, he acknowledged that a brief three-game break earlier in the month to recover from his injury helped him reset mentally. He’s still hoping to be better, obviously, but he does feel there’s been some improvement in his game.
