Firefighters kept a car fire in an attached garage from spreading into a home in Stittsville Thursday night and reunited the family with their three cats.

When crews arrived, they found the car engulfed in flames and doused the fire before it could spread to the walls of the garage or the house. Firefighters found the cats as they searched the home for fire spread.“When the smoke alarm sounds, get out fast. You may only have seconds to escape safely,” the fire department said.
“If pets are trapped inside your home, tell firefighters right away. Do not return inside to retrieve them. Once out, stay out.”
