Burnaby Art Gallery hosts Ornament and Instrument by Vancouver-based multidisciplinary artist Karin Jones from Feb. 2 to April 16 — with a gallery reception on Feb. 2.
A new exhibition at Burnaby Art Gallery is weaving conversations of beauty, race and colonialism between fine tendrils of gold and hair.
Jones, who was nominated last year for the prestigious Sobey Art Award for emerging Canadian artists, studies how historical narratives shape identities. Her artist statement explains the mourning dress symbolizes sadness, “high culture,” the British Empire and the constraints of feminine beauty norms.
