According to officials, Canada’s largest electricity battery storage project will be set up in Haldimand County, near Six Nations of the Grand River.is a partnership between the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation and other stakeholders. It will be supported by both the federal and provincial governments.
It will draw power from the grid during off-peak hours, and store it for later periods of heavier demand. When it’s operational in 2025, it is expected to offer enough power to run a city the size of Oshawa.“When our two governments work together, in partnership with Indigenous communities, we can help to build a stronger economy and a more sustainable province,” said Federal Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland.
“This project will help make electricity more affordable for Ontario families, and play an important role in building the clean electrical grid that Ontario will count on for generations to come,” she added. “I’m thrilled to see so many great partners come together to build this world-class project that will provide affordable, clean energy for generations to come,” said Ontario Premier Doug Ford.
“This project will generate employment opportunities and significant revenue for our community, and we look forward to its completion,” said Mark Hill, Elected Chief of Six Nations of the Grand River.Ctrl+Enter
