Breaking: 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' wins Best Picture at the Oscars
On a night when “Everything Everywhere All at Once” was happening at the Academy Awards, with a Best Picture win and six other prizes, significant Canadian things did, too: Toronto filmmakers Sarah Polley and Daniel Roher both won their first Oscars in their respective categories.,” which was also in contention for Best Picture later in the show.
Canadian-American actor Brendan Fraser, 54, won Best Actor for “The Whale,” a drama of a man trapped within his 600-lb body and troubled past. He’s the first Canadian to win this category in Oscar history. Said Yeoh: “For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities … This is proof that dreams come true. And ladies, don’t let anyone ever tell you that you are past your prime!”

Even the presenters — last year’s Best Supporting actor and actress Troy Kotsur of “Coda” and Ariana DeBose of “West Side Story” — broke into tears as they broke the news.
