Other residents living in the Parkers Cove area, including those in homes on Grouse Avenue, Deer Street, Elk Street, Lakeshore Drive, are under an evacuation alert.Photo by Facebook/Okanagan Indian Band Earlier on Tuesday, the band said crews have constructed gabions, sandbags and tiger dams to try to funnel the floodwaters through the street and away from homes and buildings. But it warns residents should be prepared to evacuate as the flood risk was a “fast-evolving event.”
The evacuation centre set up on Bonneau Road at the New Horizons building was shut down early Wednesday. Evacuees are directed to go to a new centre set up in a building adjacent to the band office at 12420 Westside Road. Areas in the B.C. Interior have been on flood watch as recent warm temperatures have caused snowpacks to melt and water levels in rivers and streams and tributaries to rise.Article content
