While Global reported that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (Papineau, Que.) and some cabinet ministers were briefed on this matter, on Nov. 20, Trudeau told reporters he had not been briefed on the issue of money being transferred to federal candidates. Perrault further warned the members of PROC against taking one news report at face value. “I just want to be prudent as to not draw conclusions from information that is not demonstrated,” he said. “I want to show no disrespect in any way to the media outlet and the journalist, but in my capacity, and certainly other institutions that are involved in the security of elections, we just can’t just draw conclusions from news reports.” Liberal MP Ruby Sahota (Brampton North, Ont.) asked what would happen “if we were to draw those conclusions.” Perrault said the risk would be “discrediting the electoral process in situations that are not warranted.” “Even in this case, even
