At a time of rising anti\u002DSemitism, Holocaust Remembrance Day on Friday is an important reminder of the horror of state\u002Dsanctioned evil.

The world’s Jewish population today — 15 million people — has never recovered from the Holocaust given that when it began, the global population of Jews was 16.5 million. With the Jewish population of Canada numbering only 380,000, or 1% of the total, Jews were the victims of 14% of all hate crimes in 2021.A recent academic paper in the Canadian Medical Education Journal by Dr. Ayelet Kuper exposed shocking hatred towards both Jews and Israel, even among the supposedly intelligent population of doctors, academics and students at the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine.

That’s why it’s important on Holocaust Remembrance Day to remember that Jews weren’t the only victims of the Holocaust.Article content
