Ads and website touting ‘sustainable energy choice’ that ‘produces cleaner heat for less money’ draws fire from Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment.
The Competition Bureau has launched an investigation into an advertising campaign by Canadian natural gas producers that presents their product as “clean,” “sustainable” and “budget-friendly.”
“Fossil fuels are making us sick,” said Dr. Samantha Green, a Toronto family physician who sits on the board of CAPE. “There’s no such thing as a clean fossil fuel. There’s no such thing as a green fossil fuel. And that includes natural gas.” According to the complaint filed by CAPE, the CGA’s advertising campaign is “false and misleading” because it presents natural gas as “good for the planet, for human health, and for our wallets.”
The extraction and production of natural gas pollutes the air and contaminates local water sources; and
