“We know that many are facing significant health concerns, including physical disabilities, mental-health challenges and substance-use issues.” In fact, the risk from a toxic illicit drug supply accounted for 87 per cent of all accidental deaths during the 10-year reporting period, spiking to 93 per cent of accidental deaths last year. Accidental deaths were the cause of three-quarters of all deaths tallied, followed by natural causes at 13 per cent and deaths by suicide at seven per cent.Article content
Lapointe called for ramped up action to address toxic drug deaths, including distribution of a safer supply and clear targets for reducing illicit drug deaths across the province, which disproportionately affect those living in poverty, in the streets or in insecure and temporary shelters.
